ABOUT

The NZRA rescue workshop is made up of the Rescue Course, Skills testing day and Workshop day. The rescue Course and the workshop overlap in the middle for skills testing day, this is the day where we run through skills that are required of a Grade 3 river guide.

The Rescue Course

The Rescue Course generally starts on the Monday of workshop week. It is highly recommended for all international guides coming into the New Zealand System, older guides looking to drop back into the system and anyone looking for a real refresher of the the basics of river rescue. We cover all of the technical aspects of the national raft guides rescue qualification, we do this in a compact format with the expectation that you will brush up on points in your own time.

The technical aspects are tested on the third day of the course. This is also the first day of the workshop so your generally smaller group is joined by a larger group of already qualified guides. Once this has happened it is much harder for assessors and instructors to give their time to individuals.

Skills testing Day

It is important that everyone is at the minimum skill level for all participants to get the most out of the rescue workshop. Therefore facilitators reserve the right to ask participants to leave if they are not up to the minimum standard reflecting a working raft guide in New Zealand.
